This long fifty chapters of story set in the US is the story of Dave Devino, about how he made friends, how he seemed to lose them, and how he found them again along with the senses of self worth and good.
There is something almost Dickens like in the plot. It highlights some social ills without ever being overbearing in its style and also depends on some unlikely but plausible coincidence to work towards its ultimately happy ending.
The writing is well paced and often very moving. Daves's "fall" is dealt with briefly but very powerfully in its simple telling. The characters are all very believable and the dialogue and interaction between them genuine. The story is complete in itself, but Driver's site has more "Quarry Tales" on it that deal with some of the other characters. These too are well worth reading, and may get reviewed later.
